UK Global Talent Visa FAQ
To apply for the UK Global Talent Visa after receiving your endorsement, you must use the “Global Talent Visa” application form provided through the UK Government’s official visa application system. This form is specifically for new applicants applying from inside or outside the UK.
For ILR as a Global Talent Visa holder, you must use the SET(O) – “Settle in the UK in various immigration categories” form.
Not always, it depends on eligibility timelines.
Main Applicant (Global Talent – Talent route): Eligible for ILR after 3 years.
Main Applicant (Global Talent – Promise route): Eligible after 5 years.
Dependants: Regardless of whether the main applicant is on the Talent or Promise route, dependants become eligible only after 5 years of residence in the UK.
No, but the process is almost back-to-back.
Dependants must first obtain ILR (usually after 5 years in the UK).
After ILR is granted, they can apply for British citizenship the next day, provided they meet residence and character requirements.
ILR and citizenship applications cannot be submitted simultaneously, but they can be done immediately one after the other.
It is generally recommended that recommendation letters are obtained from senior-level leaders such as a CTO, CEO, Director, VP, or Founder, as they are better positioned to comment on your industry impact, leadership, and strategic influence, which helps strengthen the overall credibility of your application.
For evidence letters, these can be obtained from direct technical managers, engineering managers, tech leads, or project leads, as they provide detailed, hands-on evidence of your technical contributions, execution quality, innovation, and day-to-day impact.
The UK Global Talent Visa guidance states that Exceptional Promise applicants are likely to have less than five years of experience in technology, although they may have had a longer career in another field, wherein Exceptional Talent applies to individuals who are already leaders in their field and have been recognised by others as leading talent in the digital technology sector within the last five years.
If you are unsure which category best fits your profile, it is advisable to apply under Exceptional Promise. The endorsing body will assess your evidence, and if your skills and achievements meet the Exceptional Talent eligibility threshold, they may endorse you at the Exceptional Talent level instead.
Eligibility for the Exceptional Promise category depends on a careful assessment of your individual profile, including your experience in technology, recent achievements, evidence of potential leadership, and recognition.
